Security - It's
Also About Time
Need to know, need to
access.
The fundamental rules of
security have nothing to do with want.
Need, for sure. Privilege, maybe. But Want is irrelevant.
Restricting access to
features, functions and information is not
about being Big Brother. It is
about responsibilities for safeguarding
value in your firm.
And it is about our most
precious asset -- Time.
We humans are curious (most
of the species, anyway). Granting security
permissions in BillQuick (and other
software) saves time. How?
One way is by reducing
learning time. All humans encounter a
"learning curve" when we encounter something
new. We use past experience and other
elements to learn. Customizing features and
functions a user can access lowers the
learning curve, and therefore, learning
time. For many roles in a firm, a user will
not be concerned with entire functional
areas of BillQuick. Of course, if their role
in the firm changes, they would then invest
the time in the additional features and
functions.
A second way is during normal processing.
When features and functions are turned off,
your managers and staff avoid exposure to
irrelevant menu items. Similarly,
they are not distracted by on-screen and
report information that is unrelated to their role and responsibilities in the
firm. The result is high-octane interaction
with BillQuick.
A side benefit (and an
important one) is increased accuracy.
Focused features and functions make it
easier to use BillQuick (or any software),
thus promoting increased accuracy.
In the end, saving time means saving money
(the cost of non-billable hours) and opens
the door for increased revenues (more billable
hours).
